Walking Holidays in South West France

We have been organising holidays from our farmhouse in the Tarn for the past three years and the one thing that has become totally clear during that time is that every group is different, so we have worked with our guests to provide the holiday that suits them best.  We do not have a set formula that fits all and after consultation with you will adapt most aspects of the holiday to meet your needs.  Whether it be the length and difficulty of the walks, catered or self catering, driver and leader or totally go it alone, we now believe we can customise our breaks to meet your requirements for a week or fortnights walking.  Because of our approach we look to take groups who already know each other, who are looking for a similar holiday. - however new for 2009 we will be offering two separate weeks for individuals and couples wishing to join an organised week of medium level walking.

  About Us
We moved to South West France 5 years ago with the intention of setting up a holiday business. Our 18th century fortified farmhouse, which was originally used to defend the local community from marauding armies, (often British!) has now been renovated to provide welcoming and comfortable accommodation.  This is wonderful walking country, with the freedom to walk just about anywhere so we decided to focus not just on the traditional family holidays during high summer but to extend our season by offering walking holidays in May, September and October.  Siân is a qualified mountain leader and has explored much of the surrounding countryside and is constantly discovering new interesting walks.
  The Area
We are tucked into the North East corner of the department of the Tarn which gives us easy access to both the Aveyron and Tarn et Garonne, all these departments are named after their rivers and not only are there beautiful walks alongside these they offer the challenge of valleys and towering limescale gorges.  We are close to the Forêt de Gresigne, which is the largest oak forest in the Midi Pyrenees and are on the edge of the Gaillac Plateau home of local wine production.  The walking is varied and interesting with historic hilltop town such as Cordes sur Ciel and the city of Albi, relics of the Cathar wars.  The spring brings a fantastic array of flowers including a huge variety of orchids, which thrive on the lime hills. The autumn brings the grape harvest, chestnut and walnut fairs and vibrant colour in the forests.

We are often accompanied by naturalist Paul Burnham, who spent his career working for English Nature he is on hand to identify the wide array of birds, insects and flora.
